When gas is the right choice

Gas can be a strong choice if you already have a fireplace or chimney and you want a real flame without storing fuel. It can suit sitting rooms, dining rooms and older homes where the fireplace is still the natural centre of the room. It also suits people who want quick control and a flame that feels different from an electric effect.

The first question is not the brand or trim. It is whether the room can take the fire safely. Some gas fires use a conventional chimney. Some use a balanced flue through an outside wall. Some products have different requirements again. We keep that plain: we look at the room, talk through what is possible, and steer you away from anything that does not suit the house.

Glass-fronted, open-fronted and room style

A glass-fronted gas fire is usually chosen when heat output and control matter. The flame is behind glass, which can make the fire feel cleaner and more contained. An open-fronted fire gives a more traditional view of the flame, but the room and flue need to be right for it. The choice is practical as much as visual.

The surround matters too. A simple marble fireplace can make a modern gas fire feel settled in an older room. A cleaner stone frame can suit a newer home.
